Clip from EUROPA, EAST, feature film written and directed by Anita Doron
world premiere at International Film Festival Rotterdam 2010
currently playing at goEast Film Fest - Symposium on the rise of the Right Wing:
“Works by two young filmmakers with Hungarian roots are among the most interesting attempts to personally confront the subjects of the past and of mourning. The atmospheric feature EUROPA, EAST (2010) by Anita Doron, who was born in the multi-ethnic Carpathians, presents a bold blueprint for ways in which individual recollections can be placed in relation to collective memory, together with an investigation of mourning, repression, and memory. Splicing the fictive tale of the loss of a child and the end of a love affair with documentary footage showing the nationalist-tinged celebrations for the anniversary of the 1956 Hungarian uprising, and also the funeral held for a murdered Roma child, her film opens up a broad range of association.”
